The Fable manga, created by Katsuhisa Minami, ran in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine from November 1, 2014, to November 18, 2019. With 22 tankōbon volumes released, the series concluded on June 5, 2020. A sequel titled The Fable: The Second Contact began in July 2021 and concluded on July 10, 2023, with its first volume released on November 5, 2021. Additionally, a spin-off called The Fable was serialized online from March 6, 2018, to February 26, 2019, with a tankōbon published on June 5, 2020.

In March 2022, Kodansha USA announced the licensing of the series for English digital publication, with plans for print publication starting in Q2 2024. The franchise also includes live-action films, including one directed by Kan Eguchi that premiered in Japan on June 21, 2019, starring Junichi Okada as Fable. A sequel film titled “The Fable: A Hitman Who Doesn’t Kill” aired in 2021.

The Fable anime adaptation by Tezuka Productions is directed by Ryōsuke Takahashi, is set to premiere in April 2024 on Nippon TV, Netflix, and its affiliates. With over 20 million copies in circulation as of October 2022, The Fable has garnered significant acclaim. It won the 41st Kodansha Manga Award in 2017 and ranked 14th on Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list of best manga of 2020. Additionally, it was nominated for “Best Comic” at the 51st Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2024.
